Homeware and furniture designer , Neill Bustin the name behind R+D studio, has  designed products for some of the best known retailers of home and furniture products. a few examples are included here.

The design ethos of R+D is based on the knowledge of not only "trend and Direction" but also material inovation and  supplier strenghths

DIRECTION
 

Directional forecasting carried out by us focuses on brand strengths and customer profiles as well as supply strengths, exploring new materials and finishes along with consumer requirements , for example new furniture formats and the current direction for pieces with multi uses and longevity

DESIGN/SPECIFICATION

When developing any catagory we focus on the practicality and the strenth of specific suppliers the aim being to provide designs that are focused on the clients customer needs . We work by sketching items in 3D focusing on "real" proportions and scale, moving to material mapped renders after client consultation and approval.  We can then support suppliers with working drawings and specifications , we often challange a supply base to move out of a comfort zone to concepts that are within their capacity often resulting a new path for profits

PRESENTATION

The communication of clear product development linked not only to  direction, based on research but also to the remit of the client . This is achieved through a variety techniques, physical Material samples , Elevations drawn to scale , 3D rendering , hardware specification and clear range build . The identification to potential new formates or products is also key

LAURA ASHLEY

The Heritage collection of furniture, Clifton has remained in the best seller list at Laura Ashley for over 20 years , newer collections and furniture pieces still retain the core values of Laura Ashleys design ethos and style direction 

MICHELLE KEEGAN HOME

The success of Michell's fashion collection and her own interest in interior design , inspired a home ware collection for Shop Direct , I worked closley with Michelle on defining her ideas into a full collection of home products , including furniture , lighting , home accessories and textiles. I also curated a wallpaper collection to complet the Look ,the key concept was to give Michelle a timeless look , that would be expanded rather than totally changed as seasons progressed

UPHOLSTERY

Included here are examples of recent upholstery products currently on sale , from concept to delivery of designs and including fabric selection my involvement is across the whole area and includes designing to a target price point working closley with suppliers from europe and the far east

NEXT

My time at Next as the senior product designer on furniture meant i was deeply involved in all aspects of homeware, including the initial launch of the stand alone home stores , many of the products developed while there are still in their top 10 

FESTIVE

Winter Festive is a key category at Shop Direct , my role included research for specific winter products and ensure palate and materials sync across other key areas in home , as well as briefing suppliers with core products

OUTDOOR

This product category is a micro version of the main product offer within home ware, the same processes are actioned but often curated from suppliers products with adjustments to colour or pattern to ensure growth for both parties

HARTNELL HOME

Norman Hartnell is best known for fashion but famously for creating the wedding dress and coronation gowns for Elizabeth II. The collection of home wares and furniture captured the style not only of the period but the values of Norman . Product was developed across Europe and the far east , coordinated by myself.

BRAND PRESENTATION

Brand direction and presentation is also part of my portfolio. Working closely with clients on the full planning and realization of trade show stands , both here in the UK and europe.

RETAIL INTERIOR

I also work with independant retailers on interiors and presentation , this was a project in Dusseldorf for a well know german fashion brands, The final design of this flagship store was rolled out to all stores and franchizes, the pallete was very limited and the 1st fix designs for lighting, hanging rails and changing rooms was a challange and I designed all the FF&E

RETAIL INTERIOR

This colaboration with interior designer Kelly Hoppen on a retail space within the Red Brick Mill , just out side leeds , was to showcase her homeware collection.

The German department store that is the benchmark for design concessions used us for key signature display pieces , from statement tables to styling items , working closely with the brands and the VM team to sourcing items as well as design and coordinate manufacture
